Jerry Wagner

Following Jesus is what helps me be a husband, a father of 4 children, a friend to many, and a pastor who loves and leads well. I began planting Mercy Street Church (MSC) while serving in the mentoring arm of Mercy Street Inc. as a High School Mentor Coordinator. My passion is to see the Good News of Jesus bring people together from different walks of life who love Jesus, love their neighbor, and come together as a team to serve their community. I love defeating my wife in Scrabble, being my girls' hero (I hope that lasts!), and making up songs with my son. I am always thinking about how Jesus would have MSC love the families of West Dallas as they become a part of this family.

I am an alumnus of Bowling Green State University, where I received my Bachelors in Communication and Marketing. I am also an alumnus of Dallas Theological Seminary where I earned a Masters of Theology degree in Old Testament Studies. This education is merely a tool that allows me to serve all those that God will entrust to me as a friend, and a pastor.

Come be apart of the journey as MSC seeks mutually transforming relationships by the truth of the Gospel of Jesus. If you would like to get to know the Wagner family, let's have a meal together.

Mercy Street Church (MSC) exists to glorify God by unleashing healthy disciple-makers in West Dallas to reach the world through gathering, neighboring, serving, and sending.

MSC exists to glorify God. All things exist and are being worked according to the will and pleasure of God for the purpose of His glory (Eph 1:11-12). The reason man was created was for the glory of God. Therefore, all that we do should glorify Him (1 Cor. 10:31).

How do we glorify God? We do it by unleashing healthy disciple-makers. Jesus’ disciples desire to reflect His character, speak of His grace, and proclaim His Word.

Our missional action is "unleashing healthy disciple makers in West Dallas to reach the world". MSC’s mission is a perfect mission because it is directly from the command of Jesus (Matt. 28:18-20). Our responsibility is to call people who do not know Jesus to a relationship with Him and help them to mature in their walk with Him.

Core Identities

Core Identities

Bible | We are fighting to pursue God through His revealed word by studying it to know His ways and practicing it daily (2 Timothy 3:16).

Discipleship | We are fighting to unleash healthy disciple makers to reach the world (Matthew 28:18-20).

Neighboring | We are fighting to love our actual neighbors by entering into their lives and leaving room for interruption in our own lives (Luke 10:25-37).

Praying | We are fighting to always pray for God’s mission, God’s provision, God’s forgiveness, and God’s love for others (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Sharing the Gospel | We fight for the proclamation of the gospel (Word) and affirmation of the gospel (life) so that people might become followers of Jesus (Psalms 93:3).

Serving | We are fighting to serve within the local body for unity, and to meet the needs within our neighborhoods and city (Ephesians 4:11-16).

Growing in Christ | We are fighting to grow in the grace and understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ so that we might reflect His life (2 Peter 3:18)

Multiethnic Community | We are fighting to tear down the “dividing wall of hostility” and to bring peace and oneness to His people (Ephesians 2:14).

Our Beliefs

Our Beliefs

There is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4).

God is three distinct persons who are one. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:18-20).

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He was born of a virgin and is at all times both fully God and fully human (Colossians 1:15-20).

The Bible is the standard for all truth (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16, 21).

All humanity is sinful by nature in birth and deed, except Christ; therefore, no matter what he/she does he/she falls short of being perfect (Romans 3:23).

Because all of humanity is sinful, the penalty for all of humanity is death, both physically and spiritually (Romans 6:23).

Jesus Christ’s death is the only solution to pay the penalty for sin and by trusting only in Him will one be saved (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).

Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead according to the eyewitness account of at least 500 people (1 Corinthians 15:3-9).

Jesus' Return:

Jesus will return to earth for a second time. Those who have placed their trust in Him will be raised to spend eternity with Him. Those who have not trusted in Jesus Christ will be raised to eternal punishment - Hell (Hebrews 9:28).

We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the only ordinances and sacraments of the church. Water baptism is a public act by immersion in water which symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and by which the believer identifies with Christ. The Lord’s Supper symbolizes the new covenant of Jesus (Matthews 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:26).

How We Grow

How We Grow

MSC understands that discipleship is a process. All those who are called to be disciples of Jesus are in the process of becoming more like the Master- Jesus Christ.

Therefore, the means to help spiritual maturity is a four-fold process at MSC: gathering, neighboring, serving, and multiplying.

Gathering: We are disciples of Jesus who desire to worship God with our entire life, therefore, we nurture this desire through our corporate gathering.

Neighboring: We are disciples of Jesus who desire to spend time with our neighbors and enter into life on life relationships where we build friendships and serve each other.

Serving: We are disciples of Jesus who have been given a passionate gift that we use to make the body of Christ strong as we work together for the sake of the Gospel.

Sending: We are disciples of Jesus who are called to impact our homes, cities, and nations with the gospel through planting more churches and being active in local and foreign missions.
